Install guide

Install Kivuli in your browser.

Five steps, about two minutes, in Chrome, Brave, or Edge. No account and nothing to sign up for. If you get stuck at any point, we will help.

Kivuli is ONLY distributed at github.com/kivuliapp

There is no Chrome Web Store listing, no Edge Add-ons listing, and no other official download. Any store listing you find is fake. Do not install it, and please report it to us.

Five steps

Install it in about two minutes.

Pick your browser. The steps are the same shape everywhere, only the details change.

  1. 01

    Download the latest release

Go to the Kivuli releases page on GitHub and download the zip file attached to the newest release, listed under Assets. The page to bookmark is github.com/kivuliapp/extension/releases/latest.

  2. 02

Unzip it into a folder you will keep

Extract the zip somewhere permanent, for example a Kivuli folder inside Documents. Chrome runs the extension straight from this folder, so it needs to stay where it is.

Do not leave it in Downloads, and never delete it. If the folder goes missing, Kivuli stops loading until you restore it. Your funds are not affected either way.

  3. 03

    Turn on Developer mode

Open a new tab, go to chrome://extensions, and switch on the Developer mode toggle in the top right corner.

Developer mode must stay on. Unpacked extensions like Kivuli only run while it is on.

  4. 04

    Load the unpacked extension

Click Load unpacked and select the Kivuli folder from step 2. Kivuli appears in your extension list right away.

Pin Kivuli and create your wallet

Click the puzzle piece icon in the Chrome toolbar and pin Kivuli. Open it and create your wallet. Kivuli is in beta, so start with a small amount while you get comfortable.

Keep it running

Three things to remember.

Unpacked extensions have a few quirks. These three cover nearly every problem people run into.

Never delete the folder

Your browser runs Kivuli straight from the folder you unzipped. If you delete or move it, the extension stops loading. Your funds are safe either way, but keep the folder where it is.

Leave Developer mode on

Unpacked extensions only run while Developer mode is on. If it gets turned off, Kivuli goes away until you switch it back on.

After a browser update

A Chrome update can leave Kivuli showing as turned off. Open the extensions page and flip it back on. Your wallet and your funds are untouched. This is a browser quirk, not a problem with your money.

Verify

Check your download.

One command proves the zip you downloaded is exactly the one we published. Optional, but a good habit.

Every release page lists the SHA-256 checksum of its zip. Compute yours and compare the two:

macOS or Linux
shasum -a 256 <file>
Windows (PowerShell)
Get-FileHash <file> -Algorithm SHA256

Replace <file> with the name of the zip you downloaded. If the result does not match the checksum on the release page, delete the file and contact us before going any further.
